Packing Your Items To Find Them Easier In Storage

Blog

Packing up your household belongings and moving them into storage can be a very draining and frustrating job. However, it's still easier than finding something you need once you have your storage unit all packed. You can take some extra steps to make it simple for you to find your items without searching endlessly and digging through many different boxes. Read the information below to learn some of the things you can do to make finding your items easier in your storage unit.

Come up with a system for labeling your boxes

One way you can label your boxes is to list each item that goes in to every box on a sheet of paper. Give each box a number and place that number on all four sides of the boxes. This way, when you are looking for a certain item, you can locate it in the sheet of paper and take note of the box number. Then, locate that box and you will find what you were looking for.

Another very simple way for you to label your boxes is to lay out the contents of each box before you pack them inside of it. Take a picture of all those items and print the picture out. Tape the picture onto the side of the box. When you put the boxes into the storage unit, make sure each box has the pictures facing outward.

Packing your fragile items

When you are packing your large fragile items, such as paintings, mirrors, vases, very fragile lamps, nick knacks and other items, you should wrap them in bubble wrap so they aren't in jeopardy of breaking while they are in the unit.

Take up close pictures of each item and tape the pictures on them. This will not only let you know which item is what, but it also makes it very obvious to those moving your items that this one is very breakable.

Packing for frequent access

If you have a lot of items that you know you are going to need access to quite frequently, then you may want to put those into a clear storage bin. Keep this bin near the front of the unit. This way, you can find those often-needed items quickly.

Following some of the tips detailed above will help make it easier for you to find your items if you need something during the period of time the items are in the unit.
